For the experiment you will watch a series of videos (total 15 minutes ) on the stability of some compounds- use these compounds for you data and lab report; must include abstract, background, conclusion. (I will attach a example of lab report)

1.Chemistry Demo: Heating Lead (IV) Oxide (1:15)

2.Decomposition of Ammonium Carbonate(2:40)

3.Heating of ammonium chloride (45 seconds)

4.Calcium Chloride in Bunsen Flame (reaction only) (21 seconds)

5.Decomposition of Sodium Chlorate and Burning of Produced Oxygen (5:58)

6.Ethanol burning (4:12)

7.https://www.sciencephoto.com/media/928136/view/thermal-sugar-decomposition (38 seconds)

This week you will be look at and doing (virtually) an experiment that looks at the difference between Ionic and Covalent bonds as it pertains to heat stability.

Ionic Bonds are bonds which uses electrostatics to keep their molecules together. These bonds do not share their electrons in making these bonds but uses the attractive forces (positive and negatives attract). Some of the compounds include : salt (sodium chloride), potassium nitride, and magnesium oxide. Please look these compounds up via google and note their melting points. What were they? See a trend? Where are these molecules ions from in the periodic table?

Covalent Bonds are bonds formed by “sharing” their electrons to make the bond that keeps the ions together. Some of the compounds which makes up this group include: carbon dioxide, dinitrogen tetoxide, and sulfur trioxide. Please look these compounds up via google and note their melting points. What were they? See a trend? Where are these molecules ions from in the periodic table?
